This week I have tweaked the lighting, placed final scenes, assets, animals and tackled the issue of impostors.
I first started by experimenting and tweaking the lighting.
I decided a sunset theme would be dramatically accurate.
After much deliberation and tweaking, I decided that this type of light would fit best into the scene I wished to create.
I then placed some deer into the environment to see how believable it would be. Fortunately these new additions assimilated well into the scene.
I then began to work on impostors. Which are substitutes for 3D meshes that reduce consumed processing power. I had tried to make 3D impostors however too many problems came up and I decided to go with 2D instead.
I began by taking the 3D models and placing them in the environmental light.
I then singled out the meshes and took a screenshot.
The I edited the 2D assets in photoshop and then imported them back into UE4.
Here I turned these new textures into a mask.
And then I made a 2D plane in Maya so the trees could be imported properly into the scene. Unfortunately I had some import problems and instead I had to mask them over some 2D sprites.
After this was done I placed the Impostor into the 2D environment. Now that this is done I must find a way to get them to work with the mass placement blueprint.
